ABOUT ME

I  am Thomas de Jaeger, 36 years old, and currently living in Paris (France) since December 2022. I am a Postdoc working within Nicolas Regnault's group at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (LPNHE/CNRS). I am studying the Type Ia supernovae (Thermonuclear) and mainly their use as distance indicators.
The main goal of my postdoc is to measure the dark energy equation of state, w. For this purpose, I use data from the Zwicky Transient Factory survey to develop a new light-curve fitter to reduce the systematic errors from the calibration and the model. I have also high-redshift data from Subaru and SNLS.

Previously, I was living in Hawai'i, doing a postdoc with Ben Shappee at the University of Hawai'i, IfA working on peculiar velocities to map the matter distribution. I also did a postdoc with Alex Filippenko at the University of California, Berkeley and my PhD in Santiago de Chile at the Universidad de Chile with Mario Hamuy. The purpose of my thesis entitled: "Independent evidence for the cosmic acceleration from Type II supernovae" was to study the usefulness of Type II supernovae as extragalactic distance indicators (download my thesis for more information).

I am a French native speaker who grew up in Toulouse (France), the capital of the Aerospace French Valley. My city is also very famous for its gastronomy and its rugby team. I also speak fluent Spanish thanks to my five years in Chile, and I also have good working knowledge in English and some basic in Portuguese. Besides Astronomy, I am passionate about football. My favourite football team is Real Madrid.  As French, and from SouthWest France, I enjoy gastronomy. Nothing better to be with your friends/family sharing a nice glass of wine with an amazing "magret de canard". With my wife, we also love traveling to discover new cultures. We try to visit at least a new country each year and thus, we had the chance to go to many countries in Europe but also in South America, Asia, and the Caribbean. Finally, with my wife, we have two beautiful kids: Théo was born in the amazing island of Oahu (Hawaii) in Dec. 2020, while Adèle was born in the beautiful city of Paris in May 2023.
